Marbacher points out that Gaudiun et Spes is the concrete expression of the desire of Vatican Council II to ââ¬Å"explain to everyone how it conceives the presence and activity of the Church in the world of todayâ⬠(Marbacher, 1). The pastoral constitution emphasizes that ââ¬Å"honest dialogueâ⬠in inextricably linked with the Churchââ¬â¢s mission to spread the gospel throughout the entire world. Marbacher indicates that the foundation for the recommended dialogue between the Church and the world is based on three factors: (1) The dialogue between God and men which is amply documented in the Bible (2) The dialogue between men which goes back to the dialogues of Socrates. (3) The dialogue between the Church and men: this is perceived by the Church to be the ââ¬Å"eloquent proof of its solidarity with, as well as its respect and love for the entire human familyâ⬠(Marbacher, 3). Gaudium et Spes recognizes that dialogue is basis of human existence , the path to a ââ¬Å"deeper level of interpersonal relationshipsâ⬠(Marbacher, 2) and the essential instrument in tackling problems of culture, labor relations and world trade The purpose of the dialogue is to express the Churchââ¬â¢s solidarity with all men, including non-believers. It is a mark of respect ââ¬Å"to those who think or act differently than we do in social, political and even religious mattersâ⬠(M arbacher, 3).
